Lagos govt announces deed of sublease collection for homeowners

The Lagos government has urged homeowners in government housing estates, particularly those who purchased homes before 2019, to come forward and collect their deed of sublease.
A deed of sublease is a document that proves ownership of a home in any state-owned housing estate.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, made the appeal during a monthly stakeholders’ meeting with residents of government estates in Ikorodu.
The meeting took place at the Ayangburen Jubilee Housing Estate.
Mr Toriola, according to a statement on Friday, noted that the deed is an important document that proves ownership of a home in any government estate.
Mr Toriola said the property document is also accepted for business purposes, such as applying for loans or using the property as collateral.
The deed of sublease, he clarified, is not the same as the letter of confirmation.
The letter of confirmation, according to him, is only given after a buyer has agreed to the terms in the initial letter of offer and completed all payments.
Mr Toriola urged residents who had yet to receive either the deed of sub-lease or a letter of confirmation—or had yet to complete payment for their homes—to visit the Ministry of Housing in Alausa for verification and guidance.
The permanent secretary also urged residents to take better ownership of their communities by obeying estate rules and living peacefully with one another.
He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to making affordable and sustainable housing available to all residents.
