Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos says his administration is committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada in the areas of trade, investment and innovation.

Mr Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance while receiving Canada’s new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Carlos Roja-Arbulu, at the Lagos House, Marina, on Wednesday.

The governor expressed willingness to deepen existing relationship between Lagos and Canada.

He emphasised the importance of enhancing trade relations, particularly where business-to-business interactions could flourish.

He said that Lagos was committed to achieving food security through innovative and creative solutions, given its limited landmass and large population.

Mr Sanwo-Olu highlighted the need to address climate change.

He assured the high commissioner that Lagos was ready to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, with a focus on addressing regulatory hurdles and promoting value addition.

“We are ready to engage with Canada and promote mutual economic benefits.

“Lagos wants to ship to Canada.

“We are willing to further engage and create an environment where businesses can do well, where people see opportunities and take them, an environment where there is value addition on both sides and real partnerships are created,” he said.

Responding, Mr Roja-Arbulu, said the aim of the visit was to strengthen Canada’s long-standing relationship with Nigeria, recognising Lagos state as a key driver of the partnership.

He expressed Canada’s commitment to fostering economic cooperation with Nigeria, particularly in areas such as trade, investment and innovation.
