Lagos: 57-year-old man remanded for defiling teenage girl

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 57-year-old man, Rasheed Yusuf, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The magistrate, E. Kubeinje, who did not take Yusuf’s plea, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send the same to the director of public prosecutions for advice.
Mr Kubeinje adjourned the case until November 5 for DPP’s advice.
The defendant is facing a one-count charge of defilement.
Earlier, the prosecutor, John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between July 28 and September 22.
Mr Iberedem said the defendant lured the girl, a co-tenant, into his room and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.
He said the defendant was caught by some neighbours who handed him over to the police.
He said the offences contravened Sections 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
