Labourer bags two-year jail term over theft of iron rods

An Akure Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced one Emeka David to two years in prison for burglary and stealing of iron rods.
David, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge, told the court that hunger led him to commit the offence on February 16, in Akure, Ondo State.
The Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, said that hunger was not a tenable argument for anyone to trespass and steal another person’s property.

Sekoni sentenced David to two years in prison for each count, stating that the sentences would run concurrently.
Earlier, the convict, aged 25, an indigene of Kogi, explained that he followed his friend to Ondo State for a farm work, but was later abandoned by the friend.
He said he lost his parents in 2024 and had no relatives to help him.
