The Kwara government has called on residents to keep their environment and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse to avert the outbreak of epidemics.

The commissioner for environment and forestry, Abosede Buraimoh, made the appeal during an inspection tour of the Ilorin metropolis to monitor the compliance rate regarding environmental sanitation law.

Ms Buraimoh described the unhygienic attitude of some residents as worrisome, stating that the ministry intervened by clearing the nuisance at the Adeta roundabout area of Ilorin.

“This waste dumped illegally has a lot of health hazards to humanity, as people are diagnosed with so many ailments like cholera and different kinds of infections,” she said.

The commissioner also urged the residents to imbibe healthy habits by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, roadsides and illegal places.

Saka Rahmon, the Mogaji Ile-Awo of Adeta, thanked the commissioner and her team for visiting the area and taking proactive action to prevent the possible breakout of diseases.

Mr Rahmon pleaded with the government to evacuate the wastes from the area and promised to help apprehend and prosecute anyone caught dumping refuse.

The team also visited Saka, Omoda, Taiwo, Unity and Admiralty roads.
