The Kwara State Electric Power Sector Bill has been read for the second time at the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Leading the House on the debate during Tuesday’s plenary, the prime mover of the bill, Rukayat Shittu (APC/Owode/Onire), urged her colleagues to give the bill accelerated passage due to its importance in ensuring an adequate electricity supply.

Other lawmakers in their contributions also supported the bill, especially in areas not presently covered by the national grid, with its potential to boost local electricity generation and distribution.

The bill aims to improve the electricity supply in Kwara State, particularly in areas not covered by the national grid.

It is also meant to enhance the local generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in the state when passed into law.

However, the speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, referred the bill to the House Committee on Energy for further legislative processes.

The speaker urged the committee to submit its report to the House as soon as possible.
