The Kwara government has called on proprietors of coaching centres to stop poaching students from public schools under the pretext of preparing them for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

Saka Yusuf, the executive director of the agency for mass education, gave the warning in a statement issued by the press secretary, Rasheedat Anigilaje, on Wednesday in Ilorin.

Mr Yusuf warned such coaching centres engaging in the practices of consequences.

He expressed displeasure that, in spite of ongoing sensitisation and advocacy efforts by the agency, many coaching centres continued to flout regulations by poaching students.

Mr Yusuf warned that this could derail the students’ education and jeopardise their future.

”Henceforth, coaching centres should not take students from schools and register them as conventional students.

“This practice is in direct violation of the state’s education ordinance.

”Proprietors must support, rather than undermine, the government’s efforts to improve education standards in Kwara State,” Mr Yusuf said.
