Kogi: Activists urge IGP to release murder report of Victor Obafaite, Jimoh Asimi

A coalition of civil society groups has urged the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, to release the police investigation report into the alleged murder of Victor Obafaite and Jimoh Asimi.
Messrs Obafaite and Asimi lost their lives in the aftermath of the 2007 House of Representatives election in Kabba/Bunu LGA.
Wisdom Chinedu, the coalition convener, in a statement on Monday, urged the police boss to take action. Mr Chinedu called on him to order the relevant authorities involved in the case to make their investigation reports public.
Mr Chinedu added that failing that, he urged the police commissioner in Kogi and the DPO in charge of Kabba/Bunu to initiate a fresh inquiry.
The CSO leader emphasised the need to unravel the circumstances surrounding the duo’s deaths and expressed doubts about the previous committee’s trustworthiness.
Mr Chinedu stressed the importance of justice, stating that the alleged mastermind of the attack should be promptly arrested and prosecuted for murder.
Mr Chinedu also demanded that all individuals directly or indirectly responsible for the 2007 mayhem face legal consequences. He pointed out that witnesses who could testify against the perpetrators are still available.
The activist underscored the urgency of these actions, citing violent threats in the ongoing governorship election campaign, with allegations of known cultists engaged in disrupting the election.
He stressed the importance of upholding the democratic gains made since 1999.
