Killings in Benuerequire strong political decisions to end, says cleric
General Superintendent, Holy Spirit Mission, Bishop Charles Ighele, on Friday said that killings in Benue State will require strong government decisions to end.
Mr Ighele spoke in Lagos on the recent killings in Benue State.
The bishop, who commiserated with Benue people on the killings, said that it was time to take strong decisions to end such killings in Benue and other parts of Nigeria.
According to him, certain problems require certain solutions.
He said, “For example, the revival of the economy needs political and economic solutions. Absence of a culture of civilised behaviour among the people needs a social solution. The constant Benue killings and similar killings in other places need a political decision that can only be made by political leaders.’’
He said that a major step in the right direction to ending the killings would be apprehending suspects and prosecuting them.
He said that religious bodies would need to pray that actions and decisions which would end the killings should be taken.
He added that religious organisations should offer humanitarian services to the survivors.
