Kidnap victim rescued in Anambra, police say

The police command in Anambra says it rescued a kidnap victim abducted on Tuesday at Umuege village, Amawbia, in the Awka area.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesman, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Ikenga said the rescue was made possible following a chase and strategic positioning of Police Operatives attached to the Central Police Station Awka upon receiving information about the abduction.
According to him, this made the criminals operating in an unmarked Sienna vehicle abandon the victim in Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and flee the scene.
He said the victim had been debriefed for necessary action. He added that police commissioner Ikioye Orutugu had directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The police inaugurated ‘Operation Udogachi-Zero Kidnapping in Anambra on April 14 to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors.
