The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has said the holding of an aircraft hostage by musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, otherwise called KI De Ultimate, is considered an act of “terrorism in most climes.”

Spokesperson for the NCAA, Mike Achimugu, who spoke during an interview with Arise TV on Sunday, decried the singer’s disruption of ValueJet aircraft take-off last Tuesday in Lagos.

“Your first responsibility at the airport is to respect and obey instructions from the officials on ground. The passenger (KI De Ultimate) has not done that,” Mr Achimugu said. “What he (KI De Ultimate) did in most climes is considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off. There is nothing that excuses it.”

The NCAA spokesperson said investigation was ongoing to answer other questions surrounding the incident involving KI De Ultimate and ValueJet.

Mr Achimugu said, “Did the air traffic control clear the pilot to fly seeing that it was not safe for her to proceed? All of these questions will be answered during the course of the investigation,”

Though the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, placed the musician on no-fly list after the incident, the NCAA also petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to prosecute the singer.

Amid backlash and criticisms that trailed his action, the musician made a video apologising for his action.
