The Kano government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has sponsored 105 teachers for training in technical skills to enhance access to quality education in the state.
The training exercise would be conducted under the national project coordinating unit of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) of the World Bank.
The commissioner for education, Umar Doguwa, stated this on Monday while addressing the participants before their departure to Kaduna State.
He said the three-week exercise was designed to increase the number of competent technical teachers in the state.
Mr Doguwa said the exercise would be conducted in two batches, with the first batch comprising 105 teachers drawn from technical schools in the state.
The gesture, he said, was in line with Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s administration’s commitment to reinvigorate the education sector through intensive training to improve the teaching profession.
The commissioner said the teachers would be exposed to pedagogy, digital skills, and trade-specific areas, among others.
“Our teachers are going to receive intensive training on three major areas that involved pedagogy, digital skills, and trade acquisition skills to widen their knowledge and talents in technical education,” he said.
He said the state governor has directed for the immediate completion of all technical college projects initiated by the administration of Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
According to Mr Doguwa, the government plans to establish a Technical College of Education, to enhance access to advanced technical education in the state.
He urged the participants to avail themselves of the opportunities to learn the skills to enable them to improve their performances.
Also, the coordinator of the IDEAS, Sani Bala, lauded the state government for its support of the project, which facilitated its successful implementation.
