The Kano government in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday distributed relief materials to 300 victims of various disasters in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the beneficiaries were picked from Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in the five emirate councils, flood and fire disaster victims in the state.

Mr Ganduje, represented by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Saleh Jili, said the relief items were meant to bring succour to the beneficiaries.

He listed the distributed materials to include maize, rice, millet, guinea corn, Indomie, rice, beans and condiments.

He called on wealthy individuals and the Zakkat Commission to support such gesture in helping victims of various disasters and PLWDs.

Mr Ganduje called on the public to maintain safety at all times and desist from acts capable of exposing them to disasters as they could lead to economic recession, loss of lives and property.

He also called on the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste in drains and implored them to clear blocked waterways and adhere to building codes and environmental regulations.

On his part, NEMA Coordinator in charge of Kano Territorial Office, Nuradeen Abdullahi, said the donation was part of the federal government’s efforts to support the victims of disasters across the country.

Mr Abdullahi, represented by NEMA Head of Communications, Ibrahim Gwarzo, urged the citizens to adhere to early warning rainfall predictions by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMet) to reduce incidence of flood.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Emir of the Blind in Kano, Ado Bichi, commended the agency for the gesture and promised to use the items judiciously.
