Kaduna urban planning authority, NESREA partner to enforce environmental laws

The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) has reiterated its commitment to inter-agency collaboration in enforcing environmental laws.
The Director-General of KASUPDA, Abdurrahman Yahya, stated this on Friday during a courtesy visit by officials of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in Kaduna.
Mr Yahya emphasised the importance of synergy among government institutions to achieve sustainable urban development, noting that no agency could operate in isolation.
He assured that KASUPDA remained open to partnerships that aligned with the state’s development agenda, particularly in promoting environmental sustainability and urban resilience.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NESREA, Hena Dangari, while congratulating Mr Yahya on his appointment, commended KASUPDA’s proactive approach to urban planning and development.
He reiterated NESREA’s mandate to enforce environmental laws and regulations aimed at safeguarding public health and protecting natural ecosystems.
Mr Dangari identified key environmental concerns, including flood control, afforestation, re-afforestation, and drainage management, stressing that addressing the challenges required a concerted effort.
He added that enhanced collaboration between NESREA and KASUPDA would strengthen environmental governance and promote a resilient and sustainable Kaduna State.
