Kaduna govt. sets up committee to resettle displaced communities

Governor Uba Sani inaugurated a 10-member committee on Monday to resettle displaced communities in Southern Kaduna affected by various incidents of insecurity.
Speaking during the inauguration, Mr Sani, represented by his deputy, Hadiza Balarabe, said the move was in response to a recommendation by the State Security Council on November 8, 2023.
He said the deputy governor would chair the 10-member committee.
Mr Sani stressed the importance of the committee’s task and responsibility towards the affected persons displaced from their homes due to various challenges.
“The southern part of Kaduna has seen its fair share of displacement due to incidents of violence plaguing the state.
“The plight of these displaced persons weighs heavily on our collective conscience, and it is crucial that we take decisive action to address their needs and facilitate their resettlement,” he said.
He said the primary objective is to devise comprehensive strategies for their effective resettlement by facilitating access to basic amenities, healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.
“We must actively engage the displaced communities by listening to their voices, understanding their concerns, and involving them in the decision-making processes that affect their lives,” he said.
Mr Sani said this could be achieved by fostering a participatory approach and ensuring that government efforts are responsive to the needs and aspirations of those they seek to assist.
He said the government would leverage the expertise and resources available through partnerships with relevant stakeholders, non-governmental and community-based organisations, and humanitarian agencies.
He described the committee members as tested and proven individuals who would bring their experience to bear to achieve the set objective.
The Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and the chairmen of Jema’a, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas are members of the committee.
