JUST IN: Tribunal sacks Adeleke, declares Oyetola winner of Osun governorship election

The Osun State Election Petitions Tribunal on Friday sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the gubernatorial election of July 16, 2022.
The majority of the three-judge panel arrived at its decision after cancelling hundreds of polling units previously won by Mr Adeleke over over-voting. A minority judge backed Mr Adeleke’s victory.
Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola was subsequently declared the winner of the election, returning the government house in Osogbo to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mr Adeleke’s lawyers are said to be preparing an appeal over the matter, which is expected to drag up to the Supreme Court.
Mr Adeleke was quick to dismiss the ruling, saying it was ’’a miscarriage of justice’’ with a vow to restore people’s mandate.
“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done,” the governor said. “Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate”
