JUST IN: Donald Trump wins U.S. presidential election

Donald Trump has thrashed Vice President Kamala Harris to emerge as the next president of the United States after a tight election cycle and two assassination attempts.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Mr Trump said early Wednesday in Palm West Beach.
Mr Trump’s path to victory became evident after he won Pennsylvania, the largest battleground state, and North Carolina and Georgia, where he significantly performed better than in 2016 when he shellacked Hillary Clinton.
With his election triumph, Mr Trump has become the second president in history to serve non-consecutive terms, having narrowly lost a re-election bid to President Joe Biden in 2020.
