An area court in Jos on Monday sentenced one Gideon Simon to 24 months’ imprisonment for stealing household items valued at N300,000.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option of a N300,000 fine as an alternative.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported at the B Division Police Station, Jos, on August 5 by Godwin Odugbo.

He said the convict trespassed into Mr Odugbo’s home and stole a standing fan, one 12-spring mattress and a gas cylinder, all valued at N300,000.

The prosecutor told the court that during the police investigation, the convict confessed to having committed the offence, and the stolen items were recovered from the convict.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
