A magistrates’ court in Jos has sentenced a 43-year-old labourer, Dachung Adamu, to three months’ imprisonment for impersonating a police officer (wearing a police uniform).

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, who sentenced Mr Adamu after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday, said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those wanting to indulge in such acts.

Mr Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option of a N10,000 fine.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported on March 18 at the ‘A’ Division Police Station by one Samuel Ephraim of Nigeria Hunter’s Group.

The prosecutor said the convict was found wearing a police uniform at Gada Biu.

He said the offence is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law.
