Joint force smashed criminals’ camp in Anambra community, recovered guns, cars: Police

An Anambra Joint Security Force, led by the police, has smashed a camp suspected to belong to insurgents in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra.
The operation, which was on the order of CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, led to the recovery of five exotic cars, previously snatched at gunpoint, and over 300 rounds of machine gun ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for the Ak-47 rifle.
DSP Toochulwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer (PPRO), Anambra Command, who disclosed this in a statement, said members of the criminal gang fled with gunshot wounds, leaving trails of blood.
Mr Ikenga said the hoodlums had disrupted business activities at Achalla Market on Monday, ordering traders to sit at home.
According to him, this drew the attention of the security apparatus in the state, which made the state police command decide to give them a taste of their own medicine in the early hours of Monday.
Mr Ikenga said, “The operation was hugely successful, and all operatives from various services returned safely to their bases.”
The PPRO quoted Mr Adeoye as ordering that owners of the recovered vehicles be contacted to come and identify them with proof of ownership and claim them.
He said the manhunt for the fleeing insurgents would be extended to hospitals and clinics to ensure they were brought to justice after receiving adequate treatment.
