JNTSCON vows to enforce occupational health, safety regulations in Akwa Ibom

The Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria (JNTSCON), Akwa Ibom chapter, says it will strictly enforce occupational health and safety regulations.
The chairman, Preferred John, told journalists in Uyo on Saturday that the committee would collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure effective enforcement.
“We shall collaborate with the Akwa Ibom Local Content Compliance Monitoring Committee and other stakeholders.
“The committee shall engage the public for informed conversation. We shall organise a South-South conference on industrial transport, occupational health and Safety in Uyo,” he said.
Mr John said the conference would create an atmosphere for awareness on promoting transport and occupational health safety.
He said JNTSCON was established by the presidency in 2018 to enforce compliance with occupational health, safety, and transportation value chains.
“The committee shall use the conference to raise awareness and promote safety consciousness among residents, particularly in the use of public infrastructure.
“The conference will provide a professional bridge upon which exhibitors and professionals across sectors can interact,” Mr John said.
He urged truck owners and drivers in the state to desist from indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the highways.
“Such act obstructs free flow of traffic, it is also punishable by law. Our mission is to have a hazard-free environment,” he said.
