Jigawa LG embarks on week-long outdoor fumigation against mosquitoes

The Guri Local Government Council in Jigawa State has conducted a one-week outdoor spraying against mosquitoes in the area.
The Information Officer of the council, Fahad Muhammad, stated this on Thursday that the fumigation was conducted between August 24 and August 31.
Mr Muhammad said that the exercise was aimed at stamping out mosquitoes and other insects in the area.
He explained that the exercise targeted drains, culverts and other mosquito breeding sites across the 11 wards of the council.
The information officer quoted the council’s Director Admin and General Services, Muhammed Gudaji, who doubles as acting Chairman, as saying that the council was passionate about the wellbeing of the populace by safeguarding the environment.
According to him, Mr Gugaji urged the people to reciprocate the gesture through regular sanitation and maintaining clean homes and environment.
Mr Muhammad added that the acting chairman also advised residents to dump waste at designated places provided by the council and not to block the drains, especially during the rainy season.
“The council decided to conduct the exercise as the state government and partners distributed mosquito nets to households across the local government area. So this is done to complement the state government in its fight against malaria for the safety of children and pregnant women,” Mr Muhammad said.
He, therefore, called on households that benefited from the mosquito nets to ensure they slept under them to protect themselves from mosquitoes causing malaria.
Mr Muhammad, also quoted the Head of Water and Sanitation Department of the council, Bashari Hassan, as saying that self-help groups in the area should continue to participate in monthly environmental sanitation exercises to keep the area clean.
