Jigawa emirate distributes grains to 1,400 indigents

The Kazaure Emirate Council in Jigawa has distributed grains worth N23.5 million to 1,400 indigent persons.
The gesture is part of the 2024 alms (Zakkat), one of the five cardinal pillars of Islam, mandating that the Muslim faithful give a certain amount of their income as charity to those in need.
In a statement on Monday in Dutse, the council spokesman, Gambo Garba, said the exercise was a continuation of the 2024 Zakkat collection and distribution exercise.
He said the Zakkat committee distributed assorted grains to poor families at Unguwar Kaya village in the Roni district of the council.
Mr Garba quoted the chairman of the Zakkat Collection and Distribution Committee, Bala Muhammad, as urging wealthy individuals and those eligible to give out Zakkat to support needy people.
He also quoted the Emir of Kazaure, Najib Hussaini Adamu, as commending the timely collection of the Zakkat. He admonished his subjects to live in peace with one another and enrol their wards in schools.
