The Jigawa government has approved N15.8 billion for the execution of a viable basic education programme to enhance access to free quality education in the state.

Sagir Musa, commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture, said this on Wednesday in Dutse.

He said the State Executive Council (SEC) had approved the fund to fast-track implementation of the Jigawa Unified New Improvement of Teaching and Education (Jigawa UNITE) programme.

Mr Musa said the programme was designed to encourage the deployment of innovative technology and data-driven platforms for high-quality learning materials during the 2024-2026 academic sessions.

“It will deploy effective training for teachers and technology-enabled support teams to create support and drastic improvement in learning outcomes in the state.

“This is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and New Globe Education Services Limited, for transformation of primary education, with a 30 per cent mobilisation of N4.7 billion, ” he said.

Mr Musa said the council also approved the disbursement of N839 million donations to the 210 families affected by the Majia tanker explosion.

The commissioner said the SEC further approved guidelines for the implementation of the Alternative Care for Children (ACC) programme to ensure social protection of vulnerable persons and children.
