Japa: Jesus mentioned there will always be poor people in Nigeria, others, Tinubu says

First Lady Remi Tinubu has censured Nigerians fleeing the country to take up menial jobs abroad and urged wealthy Nigerians to support the needy. Quoting Matthew 26:11, Ms Tinubu, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, cited Jesus Christ, acknowledging that there will always be poor people worldwide.
“You know, I believe in social development and social investment for people who truly need it. And, in the Bible, in the times of Jesus, he said the poor you will always have in the land, and it’s for people whom God has blessed to help the poor,” Ms Tinubu said.
The Nigerian first lady added, “We need to look into how to help our people to ameliorate this time. There are better days ahead. But my advice is I don’t want people to get used to handouts.
Ms Tinubu made a rallying call for Nigerians to help each other.
“Nigerians, we can help each other,” she stated.
Ms Tinubu said this in a recent interview with ARISE TV.
Several Nigerians have been killed as they struggled to get a meal amid historic economic hardship and worsening insecurity.
In February, at least seven people were reportedly killed in a stampede amid a rush for subsidised rice.
