Israeli cruise ship greeted by Gaza protests in Rhodes

At least 50 people protested the arrival of an Israeli cruise ship with 650 passengers at the port of Rhodes, Greek media reported Tuesday.
Police detained 15 demonstrators and began proceedings against eight, accusing them of racism and violence against officers, according to broadcaster ERTnews.
The cruise ship passengers disembarked without incident. This followed an earlier protest that prevented docking at Syros.
Police in Rhodes adapted their response after the previous incident.
Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis told ERTnews that demonstrations were permitted, but blockades and violence were not.
Greece and its many islands are a popular holiday destination for Israeli tourists.
However, Israeli tourists increasingly face protests and criticism over Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza.
Reflecting on the growing tensions, the chairman of the Greek tourism union, Grigoris Chotzoglou, warned of increasing chaos in the country’s tourism sector.
He blamed the protests on left-wing groups and small minorities, accusing them of seeking attention through isolated acts.
