The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has reiterated Israel’s commitment to preventing the entry of individuals or groups that may harm the state and its citizens.

Mr Freeman disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Monday in response to reports about the detention and deportation of two British parliamentarians who allegedly supported the Palestinian cause and were involved in activities linked to terrorism.

He clarified that Israel would not tolerate individuals or organisations that acted against the country, including those who promoted boycotts, falsely accused Israel, or called for sanctions against its officials.

“The two British lawmakers were denied entry by the Israeli Minister of Interior for their involvement in campaigns against Israel, including promoting sanctions and boycotts.

“Although they had the legal right to challenge the decision in court, the lawmakers chose not to do so.

“Israel also offered them hotel accommodation and covered the costs of their return flight to the UK, but they declined the offer,” Mr Freeman said.

Mr Freeman stressed that Israel had the authority and responsibility to prevent the entry of those intending to cause harm, much like any other nation would.

He also emphasised that the timing of the parliamentarians’ visit was meant to provoke anti-Israel sentiments, especially at a time when Israel was facing multiple attacks in a war.

“This situation underscores Israel’s strict stance on security and its approach to handling individuals it believes might jeopardise its citizens or promote harmful actions against the state,” Mr Freeman said.
