Irate Cubans protest as national power grid collapses again

Cuba’s power grid collapsed again for the fourth time on Sunday, plunging its capital, Havana, and some other parts of the country into blackout, forcing irate Cubans to protest.
Sunday’s grid collapse, which was reported was triggered by Hurricane Oscar, was the fourth in the past 48 hours in Cuba.
It comes amid efforts to restore power in the Caribean Island, which had plunged into darkness since Friday, when its power grid first collapsed. Another power grid collapse was recorded on Saturday.
According to Reuters, The blackout, after weeks of rolling outages, sparked some small protests around the Caribbean island, where a tropical storm threatened to hamper efforts to restore power.
At a press conference on Sunday, Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel dressed in olive drab military attire, urged citizens to vent their displeasure over the development without resorting to vandalism and violence.
“We are not going to accept nor allow anyone to act with vandalism and much less to alter the tranquillity of our people,” Mr Diaz-Canel said.
The recent energy crisis in Cuba has disrupted commercial and public activities as schools, nightclubs and recreation centres were shut down amid the blackout.
