INEC ready to hand over election documents to help Labour in court: Chairman Yakubu

Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured the Labour Party’s legal team that his commission was ready to fully cooperate with the party’s scrutiny of the 2023 presidential election documents.
INEC disclosed via its Twitter account, on Monday, that Mr Mahmood has offered the party’s lawyers fresh assurances that the commission will make available all documents in its possession which the Labour Party might need to prove their case.
“INEC has nothing to hide. Documents available at the HQ will be given immediately. We are meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners today and we will discuss how other documents at the state level could also be made available to you speedily,” Mr Mahmood said.
The Labour Party is one of the two major opposition parties which have accused INEC of foul play during the election and has publicly stated, contrary to the commission’s declaration, that it won the election.
The party’s flag bearer, Peter Obi, said that the party will test the election results in court and prove to Nigerians that he won the election.
