Imo assembly hails Uzodimma for securing $1.5 billion investment

On Tuesday, the Imo House of Assembly commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for securing $1.5 billion in investments through the African Export and Import Bank (Afreximbank).
Obinna Egu (APC-Ngor Okpala), in a motion sponsored at a plenary, told the House that the governor had finalised discussions with the bank about potential investments of $1.5 billion.
Mr Egu further said the investment aimed to accelerate economic growth, infrastructural development, and job creation in the state and the South-East.
According to him, partnering bank will provide a unique opportunity and unlock the full economic potential of Imo.
He urged the parliament to commend the governor’s efforts to realise the state’s long-term developmental aspirations.
Francis Uzoma (APC Ohaji Egbema) supported the motion, saying the investment would attract businesses to Imo.
“It will also improve the quality of lives of people through job brought to the state,’’ he said.
The majority leader, Kanayo Onyemaechi (APC-Owerri West), described the governor’s progress as laudable and added that the effort would improve sectoral development and increase internally generated revenue.
