The three-day annual convention of the Police Officers Wives Association which commenced on Wednesday in Lagos State, has ended.

The wife of the Inspector-General of Police and National President, POWA, Elizabeth Egbetokun, in her remarks at the end of the event congratulated members of the association for a successful event.

The event had as its theme “Unlocking POWA Potential and Transformative Leadership.”

The event marked three days of strategic empowerment sessions, sports activities, and special initiatives targeting the mental, physical, and economic well-being of members.

The closing ceremony was highlighted by a talent contest and convention dinner both designed to offer a relaxing atmosphere and showcase the diverse skills and creativity among POWA members from across the 17 zones of the association.

Mrs Egbetokun noted that the interactions and learning moments had been inspiring and energising.

She said, “The three-day gathering not only strengthened unity among members but also revealed remarkable, often hidden, talents among participants. Contestants in the talent contest should embrace the spirit of healthy competition and make the most of the opportunity to shine. The dinner served as a celebratory moment to unwind after days of interactive sessions, workshops, and leadership activities.’’

In his speech at the event, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended the leadership style and passion of the POWA president, which he said had consistently reflected excellence and love.

Mr Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, encouraged the women to carry the spirit forward as they return to their respective states, noting that women had continued to prove their capacity in every field, often surpassing expectations.

He stated, “We encourage you to replicate the lessons and energy from the convention in your states to contribute meaningfully to national development. The event was not only about entertainment but also a platform to reinforce shared values, foster unity, and promote personal development among families of police officers.’’

According to him, Lagos State is committed to women empowerment.

He stated, “The state is the first state in Nigeria to win the United Nations ‘HeForShe’ award, an international honour celebrating male champions of gender equality.’’

The convention climaxed with a variety of performances under the “Talent Hunt” session, where POWA members displayed creativity through speech presentations, cultural dance, singing, pageantry, catwalks, and best-dressed showcases.
