ICAO concludes security audit of Lagos, Abuja airports, to send report in 60 days

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says Nigeria is expected to receive a full report on the just-concluded International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) security audit of the nation’s airport within 60 days.
Obiageli Orah, FAAN spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
Ms Orah quoted the ICAO auditors’ team lead, Callum Vine, as giving the information during the audit debrief after the exercise’s conclusion.
She said the debriefing indicated that Nigeria would, after receipt of the report, have 30 days to make comments and then file its plan on compliance in any observed gaps with the organisation.
The auditors undertook the 2024 ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP) through a Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) for Lagos and Abuja airports.
Ms Orah said the two-week exercise ended on Friday, and the team lead, during the debriefing, praised Nigeria’s robust policies on airport security.
She also quoted Mr Vine as acknowledging the speed with which the personnel dealt with identified deficiencies without complaints.
According to Ms Orah, the USAP-CMA’s objective is to promote global aviation security through continuously auditing and monitoring member states’ aviation security performance by regularly and continuously obtaining and analysing data.
Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s managing director, was quoted as saying that the authority would use the audit results as a roadmap for continuous improvement in the services it renders to airport users and stakeholders.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, Emmanuel Meribole, who represented the minister, and the acting director general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation (NCAA), Chris Najomo, were listed as present during the debriefing.
