Ibadan: Oyo lawmaker Olaide Akinremi dies at 51

The House of Representatives on Wednesday lost one of its members, Olaide Akinremi (APC-Oyo), who died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.
He was 51 years old.
Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson of the House, said in a statement in that Mr Akinremi’s death came with profound sorrow.
The deceased was affectionately known as ‘Jagaban’ and represented the Ibadan North federal constituency on the APC platform.
Mr Akinremi, before his death, was a ranking member of the 10th Assembly and served as chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions.
Mr Rotimi said that until his demise, the Oyo lawmaker was a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to developing his constituency and the country.
He added that his passion for service and his deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of his people earned him the endearing title of ‘Jagaban’.
He said throughout his tenure, he was a staunch advocate for policies and initiatives promoting social welfare, economic growth, and scientific research, noting that his contributions to legislative debates and his active participation in committee activities were a testament to his dedication and hard work.
The House of Representatives speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, said, “His passing is a great loss to the House, his constituency, and the nation. We will miss his leadership, wisdom, and the unique passion he brought to his work.”
“The entire House of Representatives mourns this significant loss and extends its heartfelt condolences to the Akinremi family, the Ibadan North federal constituency, the government and the people of Oyo state.”
