Hunters nab two suspected bandits in Owo forest, recover weapons

Two members of a kidnap syndicate suspected of terrorising residents of Owo, Ondo State, have been nabbed by local hunters.
The suspects, whose names have not been disclosed, were seen in a video footage posted on Saturday.
In the two-minute, 40-second footage released by a popular online blogger, Oluwaseun Ogunmola a.k.a Ob Sugar, the two suspects were seen writhing in severe pain after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“The hunters stormed their camp in the forest yesterday. While some of the kidnappers escaped, two of them were caught and brought into town on Friday night,” Mr Ogunmola said in the caption of the video.
The suspects were grilled by local hunters about their mode of operation, the identity of their gang leader, and other details about their activities.
Peoples Gazette learnt that the bandits were busted at their hideout inside the thick forest in Owo.
In the viral video, one of the suspects could be heard pleading for water to survive his wounds.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects’ camp include firearms, cutlasses, cans of beer, and energy drinks.
Olayinka Ayanlade, state police public relations officer (PPRO), confirmed the video, saying that the suspects had been handed over to security agencies.
Mr Ayanlade also said that the police have launched an investigation into the development.
“We have begun our investigation into the case, and I can tell you that efforts of the security agencies in ensuring a safer society are yielding results,” he told The Gazette in a chat.
