Housewife sentenced to five-day sweeping for beating up neighbour

Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel on Thursday ordered a housewife, Hadiza Ahmed, to sweep the court premises for five days for beating up her neighbour.
The magistrate gave the order following a guilty plea by Ms Ahmed.
“You are hereby ordered to sweep and clean up the court for five days under the supervision of the court’s registrar. The sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who do not want to live in peace with their neighbours,” said the magistrate.
Prosecution counsel Chidi Leo told the court that Ahmed committed the offence on March 21 at Tudun Wada, Kaduna.
The police said Ms Ahmed insulted the complainant, Farida Musa, without any provocation, which led to a fight.
He added that during the fight, the accused beat up her neighbour to a pulp.
The offence, he said, contravened section 173 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
