Handball: Nigeria wallop Liberia 61-16 in IHF Trophy opening match

Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s handball national team begin their quest for glory at the ongoing IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 phase in Ghana with a dominating win over their counterparts from Liberia.
The Nigerian girls were earlier scheduled to play Niger Republic but a last time pull out by the West African nation saw the former facing Liberia and comfortably emerged victorious by 45 goals.
An incredible performance by Coach Shittu Agboola Adewunmi’s tutored team saw Nigeria hand the ladies from Liberia a massive 61-16 defeat in the one-sided encounter which took place at the Tennis Arena of the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Thanks to her outstanding performance in the match, Nigeria’s Babatunde Taiwo, who was the focal point of the team’s victory in their tournament’s opener, was voted MVP of the match.
The tournament which started today and is expected to end on Saturday 15 will serve as the regional qualifier for Women’s IHF Trophy Africa Continental scheduled to hold later in the year.
Fourteen players are currently representing the country in the ongoing Zone 3 tournament in Ghana; this includes Taiwo Babatunde of Seasiders Lagos,
Esther Mathew – Seasiders Lagos and Amina Mohd of Sokoto Rima.
Other players on the list are Rahima Bello, Lucy Onyekwere, Chidera Ogbusimba, Monica Opara, Vera John, Prudence Samuel, Munira Kasimu, Oparaugo Amarachi, Okolo Joan, Samuel Precious and Kehinde Babatunde.
Officials of the Nigerian contingents are Agboola Shittu Adewunmi, Opuene Roberts and Abdulahi Suleiman.
