Palestinian armed group Hamas on Monday said it was suspending the release of Israeli hostages, accusing Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement on Monday, Hamas said it has monitored Israel’s violation of the agreement and will be suspending further release of Israeli hostages until further notice.

“Over the past three weeks, the leadership of the resistance has monitored the enemy’s violations and its failure to comply with the terms of the agreement,” Hamas said.

It added, “The release of the Zionist prisoners, which was scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025, will be postponed until further notice, pending the enemy’s compliance and the retroactive fulfilment of the past weeks’ obligations.”

According to Hamas, the violations include delaying the return of displaced persons to northern Gaza, targeting them with shelling and gunfire in various areas of the Strip, and failing to allow the entry of humanitarian aid in all its agreed-upon forms.

This comes as another setback amid efforts to end hostilities between Israel and Palestine.

In recent weeks, Hamas and Israel have exchanged hostages and prisoners, respectively, after a ceasefire agreement was reached by negotiators in Doha, Qatar.

Over 40,000 have been killed in the war that broke out after Hamas attacked Isreal on October 7, 2023, killing more than 1,000 individuals, injuring scores and taking 251 as hostages.
