Gunmen kill seven people in Plateau

Gunmen reportedly killed seven people and injured another in an attack on Gyero village in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday night.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, said the attack occurred at about 9:43 p.m. on Monday.
He identified the victims as Favour Osita, 25; Wuna Bala, 30; Confidence Osita, 22; Aragwu Adamu, 27; Sunday Avaya, 26; Peter Elisha, 25; and Danladi Achukwu, 39.
Mr Tengwong said Geoffrey Alex, 25, sustained injuries when the gunmen stormed the village on Monday.
“These were people pursuing their daily livelihoods, with families and hopes for tomorrow. Their brutal killing is another painful reminder that innocent citizens continue to live and work under the shadow of insecurity,” he noted.
The group sympathised with the bereaved families and the Gyero community and wished the survivor a speedy recovery.
“We call on security agencies to urgently investigate the attack, identify and prosecute the perpetrators, and strengthen intelligence gathering, night patrols and rapid-response operations in vulnerable communities across Plateau State,” he said.
Mr Tengwong added that no one should lose their life simply for their legitimate businesses, noting that communities deserve safety, justice and the freedom to earn a living without fear.
Alfred Alabo, the state police spokesman, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Peoples Gazette previously reported that gunmen killed two miners in Burdinga. On October 9, two miners were also killed in the Jamus area of Kazok village in the Barkin Ladi area of the state.
