Guber Elections: IGP orders investigation into incidences of violence

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into pockets of violence recorded during the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi.
The directive is contained in a statement by the police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The IGP directed all electoral offences desk officers under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, to commence the investigation.
Mr Egbetokun commended other security operatives for adequately supporting the Nigeria Police Force during the elections.
He said the commitment and due diligence displayed by the security operatives in policing the electoral process was highly productive and commendable.
Mr Egbetokun said the electoral process in the three states was seamless, defying earlier threat assessments and projected challenges from various quarters.
He acknowledges the exceptional efforts of the security personnel in maintaining law and order, safeguarding the electoral process, and ensuring the safety of citizens.
The IGP expressed gratitude to security agencies involved in election security for supporting the Police in securing the electoral process.
He urged officers to remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in discharging their duties.
Mr Egbetokun said adherence to guidelines, the rule of law and standard operating procedures of security agencies was key to a more secure democratic institution.
