Group seeks women empowerment for sustainable future

A non-governmental organisation, Bridge That Gap Initiative, has called for the empowerment of women to promote environmental sustainability and combat climate change.
This is contained in a statement on Saturday by the organisation’s Executive Director, Gloria Kasang.
The statement was issued to mark International Women’s Day 2025, with the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.’”
According to Ms Kasang, as the world faces increasing environmental challenges, the rights and empowerment of women and girls are more important than ever.
She said, “Climate change does not affect everyone equally. It disproportionately impacts women and girls, particularly in vulnerable communities. This inequality highlights the urgent need for their voices and leadership in climate action.”
Ms Kasang emphasised that educating girls about environmental issues would equip them with the knowledge and skills to become future leaders in sustainability.
She explained that women bring unique perspectives to environmental challenges, making their equal participation in decision-making essential for effective and lasting solutions.
She noted that protecting the rights of women and girls was fundamental to achieving environmental goals.
Ms Kasang urged the government and relevant stakeholders to promote gender equality and support women’s leadership in environmental initiatives.
She said, “As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, let us commit to advance the rights, equality, and empowerment of all women and girls. Together, we can build a more sustainable future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
