Governor Makinde presents staff of office to new Onifiditi of Fiditi

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday presented staff of office and instruments of office to Oba Sakiru Adekola-Oyelere as Onifiditi of Fiditi.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, performed the presentation at Fiditi Grammar School, Fiditi, on behalf of the governor.
Fiditi is a town in the Afijio Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Makinde enjoined the new traditional ruler to take necessary steps to prevent kidnapping, banditry and land grabbing in his domain.
The governor, who said that his administration had zero tolerance for insecurity, called on the new traditional ruler to cooperate with the government in that regard.
The governor also urged the Onifiditi to embrace the wisdom, grace and humility befitting a leader of his stature.
He said, “Engage with the voices of your people, listen to their needs and lead by example in fostering unity and progress in your domain. Your reign should be characterised by compassion, integrity and a genuine dedication to the wellbeing of every individual under your care.’’
According to him, the development is in exercise of the power conferred upon the governor by sub-sections (1) and (2) of Section 20 of the Chiefs Law, Cap. 28, Vol. 1, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“I hereby present the instrument or staff of office, which symbolises your authority as the Onifiditi of Fiditi, to His Royal Majesty, Oba Sakiru Adekola-Oyelere,” Mr Makinde stated.
The governor explained that the selection of Mr Adekola-Oyelere followed the endorsement of the entire family, presentation by the local government and scrutiny by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
“This transparent and traditional selection process is commendable and demonstrates our commitment to upholding due process in the appointment of our leaders,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, the royal father pledged to lead with wisdom, compassion and a steadfast commitment to justice.
He promised to serve his community with diligence and integrity.
“It is with great pride that I embrace the duties of this revered throne, a symbol of our rich heritage. As we endeavour to attract businesses and grow the homeland, our goal is clear: to foster economic growth and create opportunities for all,” he said.
