Gov. Namadi frees 10 inmates in Jigawa

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has pardoned 10 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The NCoS spokesman in the state, CSC Sani Jahun, made this known in a statement in Dutse on Monday.
Mr Jahun said the governor pardoned the inmates after the Advisory Council recommended them for Prerogative of Mercy.
“The advisory council for the prerogative of mercy in Jigawa, on its first sitting in 2025, recommended the release of 10 inmates across the state.
“And in the spirit of Ramadan fasting and Sallah celebration, Namadi approved the release of the recommended inmates,” Mr Jahun said.
He explained that while handing over the executive order to the NCoS command, the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulqadir Fanini, urged the beneficiaries to be of good conduct.
Receiving the order, the controller of corrections in the state, Yusuf Lakpene, on behalf of the controller-general of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, appreciated the governor’s gesture.
The spokesman added that Mr Lakpene also charged the released inmate to be of good conduct and to use all the reformative training they received while in custody.
According to him, six of the inmates were released from Medium Security Correctional Centre (MSCC), Gumel, two from MSCC Hadejia and two from Birnin Kudu Farm Centre.
Mr Jahun explained that five of the beneficiaries were released on probation, one due to illness (chronic liver failure), while four others were released unconditionally.
He added that all the released inmates were given a stipend for transportation and to celebrate Sallah.
