Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has unveiled the third phase of his micro, small and medium enterprises scheme for 65,000 women petty traders with a disbursement of N50,000 grant to each beneficiary.

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday in Yola, the governor said the scheme aimed to eradicate poverty and promote economic growth in Adamawa.

“The significance of today’s event reinforces the ingenious belief that the instrument for poverty alleviation must be institutional in both concept and operation,” Mr Fintiri explained. “Today, through this corridor, we are disbursing another N50,000 to each of the 65,000 beneficiaries.

The Adamawa governor added, “This exercise would be concluded in the next one week, and each beneficiary shall have a working capital before Christmas.

“The programme known as Fintiri Business Wallet has already empowered over 20,000 women in the state, with plans to expand the programme to include more beneficiaries, both men and women.”

Mr Fintiri explained that the scheme also impacted the stability and economic growth of the beneficiaries’ families.

He, however, congratulated the beneficiaries and advised them to make judicious use of the gesture to improve the state’s socio-economic development.

Michael Zira, the director-general of Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), said the disbursement would be carried out in three batches to create a trade-friendly state.

According to him, the programme is designed to uplift the less privileged in the state.

He, however, commended the governor for his steadfastness and commitment to alleviating poverty in Adamawa.

One of the beneficiaries, Musa Abba, expressed appreciation for the gesture and assured him he would use the funds to boost his business judiciously.
