Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has commended the media for supporting his administration’s efforts towards promoting peace, development and stability in the state.

Mr Eno made the statement while inaugurating a newly completed auditorium at the Akwa Ibom secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Uyo.

The governor, who presented cars to 11 members of the state working committee of NUJ in the state, also called for stronger ties with the union.

He said that the leadership of NUJ in Akwa Ibom had remained a strategic partner and supporter of his administration’s efforts towards enthroning peace and development.

“We commend you for partnering the state government in its developmental efforts, we commend you for using your platforms to promote the state instead of de- marketing it.

“You have used your profession not to fight the government, but to show commitment to the progress and development of Akwa Ibom,” he said.

Mr Eno urged Akwa people to remain committed to the peace, development and stability of the state instead of indulging in unnecessary politics.

“Government will come, government will go, but Akwa Ibom will remain here. I thank you for naming the new auditorium after my late wife, Patience, this is something I never saw coming,” he said.

Earlier, the outgoing NUJ chairman, Amos Etuk, thanked the governor for his commitment toward the development of the state.

“The union is happy with you for fulfilling your promise by supporting the completion of this auditorium that has been left without work for several years,” he said.
