Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue has called on the church to continue preaching the gospel of peace and unity as Nigeria navigates its current challenges.

He made this plea during an interdenominational church service commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence, held at The Apostolic Church on Sunday in Makurdi.

Mr Alia, represented by secretary to the state government, Deborah Aber, assured the people of good governance through developmental projects and improved welfare.

“My administration is working tirelessly to bring sustainable development and strengthen security agencies for peace across the state,” he said.

Mr Alia highlighted ongoing projects and promised to sustain the momentum.

Regarding the forthcoming council polls, he urged Benue residents to vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.

“Vote for APC candidates in the local government election to ensure development and good governance,” he said.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, commended the governor’s developmental strides.

Mr Anagbe’s representative, Rev. Jonathan Ugbede, advised Benue youths to avoid the planned October 1 protest.

“Stay indoors and ignore the protest, just as you did during the ‘End Bad Government’ protest,” he said.

Mr Anagbe also urged the church to support Mr Alia’s administration, saying, “If Alia fails, the church has failed, as he is a priest. Let’s continue to support him to succeed.”

In his sermon, Rev. Akpen Leva, encouraged Nigerians to place their hope in God amidst challenges.

Citing Isaiah 43:19-21, Mr Leva likened Nigeria’s situation to the Israelites’ wilderness journey, urging trust in God’s plan for a better tomorrow.
