Gov. Adeleke appoints new Amotekun commander

Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has appointed a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Adekunle Omoyele, as the new Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Mr Omoyele takes over from retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the pioneer commander of the security outfit, whose tenure has expired.
A letter signed by Teslim Igbalaye, the secretary to the state government, stated that Mr Omoyele’s appointment takes effect from Wednesday, July 3.
“In addition to your existing responsibility as the corps commander, Amotekun Security Network, you are expected to put to use the experience garnered during your remarkable years of active service.” the letter reads.
The new Osun Amotekun commander retired from the Police Force in 2023 after 35 years in service.
Until his appointment, Mr Omoyele was the special adviser on internal security and local matters to the governor.
The Western Nigeria Security Network code named Amotekun Corps was jointly formed by the South-West governors in 2020.
The security outfit was set up to complement the efforts of other agencies to tackle crimes in the South-West region.
