Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has donated N1 million each to the families of 22 athletes and officials from Kano State who died in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta.
A delegation from Ogun State, led by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, delivered the donation on Saturday in Kano.
Other members of the delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi; the Commissioner for Sports, Wasiu Isiaka; and the executive secretary of the festival’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), Kweku Tandoh.
During the visit, Ms Salako-Oyedele said the donation was a gesture of support from Mr Abiodun to the bereaved families and the people of Kano.
She also commended emergency responders for their prompt action during the incident and offered prayers for the recovery of survivors.
Receiving the delegation, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdusalam thanked Mr Abiodun for the support.
He noted that the governor had earlier reached out to offer his condolences personally.
