Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has donated 50 operational vehicles to security agencies in the state.

He stated this at the second Gombe State Security Summit on Wednesday in Gombe.

The theme of the summit is “Building a Safer and More Secure Gombe State: Addressing Insecurity through Collective Action.”

Mr Yahaya said the gesture was aimed at bolstering the capacity of security agencies to combat crime and maintain peace and stability in the state.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to provide the resources needed to enable security agents to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

Mr Yahaya tasked them to ensure effective utilisation of the vehicles and to continue giving their best towards building a safer and more secure society.

He said the fight against emerging security threats required collective efforts to address them; hence, synergy was necessary among security agencies, traditional, community, and religious leaders.

He said that the state, though relatively stable, had been facing challenges such as communal and farmer/herder clashes, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

The governor said that his administration was working to address the root causes of insecurity by empowering youths with jobs and skills, investing in education, and providing good governance to the people.

“We have adopted a proactive approach to addressing security challenges by prioritising early detection of potential threats, convening regular stakeholder meetings, and fostering consultations with community leaders, security agencies, and other critical stakeholders. This approach allows us to identify and address conflicts at their roots, nipping them in the bud before they escalate into a full-blown crisis. By leading from the front and demonstrating our unwavering concern for the welfare of our people, we have been able to maintain relative peace and stability in the state.

“This commitment to proactive engagement and conflict prevention remains a cornerstone of our security strategy, ensuring that Gombe continues to be a haven for its residents and a model for others to emulate,” he said.

On the summit, Mr Yahaya said it was organised to bring together key stakeholders to discuss, identify, and propose actionable solutions to the insecurity challenges facing the state and the North-East region.

He said the government would leverage the recommendations and strategies from the summit to develop a blueprint for sustainable peace initiatives to address the underlying causes of conflict and insecurity in the state.

Mr Yahaya commended President Bola Tinubu for the progress being recorded in the fight against banditry, insurgency, and crimes in the country.

“I thank Mr President for his commitment to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of our nation. To the National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, we remain grateful for your participation and invaluable contribution to Nigeria’s security,” Mr Yahaya said.

The summit is titled, “Building a Safer and More Secure Gombe State: Addressing Insecurity through Collective Action.”
