Goals rain as Arsenal demolish miserable Chelsea to keep title hope alive

It was a rain of goals at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 5-0 in their English Premier League encounter to keep alive their title hope this season.
The Gunners easily tore through Chelsea’s defence line, scoring 5 to set a new record against London rival. Before Wednesday night, Arsenal had a 5-1 record victory over its London rival in 1930.
Coming from a defeat to Manchester City that saw them crash out of FA Cup, Chelsea were further humiliated at the Emirates Stadium.
It took the Gunners just four minutes to take the lead on their turf. Declan Rice raced into Chelsea’s box and laid a nice pass to Trossard, who brilliantly buried a nice shot behind Chelsea’s goalkeeper Petrovic.
The Blues appeared to be awakened by the early goal, pressing and battling for an equaliser, but the first half ended with Arsenal leading by a lone goal.
Returning into the second half much stronger, Arsenal did the damage, compounding Chelsea’s misery.
Ben White fired in a rebound in the 52nd minute to double Arsenal’s lead, while Kai Havertz scored against his former club, making it three for the Gunners five minutes later.
Not satisfied with the three-goal lead, the Gunners pushed further, seeing Havertz net his second goal in the game in the 65th minute.
After Arsenal’s fourth goal, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino brought on Raheem Sterling and Trevoh Chalobah to replace Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez.
But it made no difference as Arsenal increased their goal tally with White netting his second goal in the 70th minute.
Arsenal’s win gave them a temporal four-point lead ahead of Manchester City. City have two outstanding games which will determine whether they displace Arsenal or stay behind them.
