Gaza: American actress Angelina Jolie shares satellite images of destruction, demands urgent aid

Popular American Hollywood actress and filmmaker, Angelina Jolie, has shared satellite images depicting parts of Gaza before and after the war, highlighting the scale of destruction in the territory.
Jolie, a former special envoy to the United Nations refugee agency, shared the images on Instagram, showing the humanitarian needs facing residents.
“You can now open Google Earth and see what was done to Gaza. Whole neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. Homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and sanitation systems, infrastructure that people depended on to survive have been damaged or destroyed,” the actress wrote.
Jolie cited UN satellite analysis showing that, as of June 16, 2026, 82 per cent of structures in Gaza had been damaged, with roughly two-thirds of those assessed as destroyed.
According to her, 1.98 million people, or 94 per cent of Gaza’s population, are in need of shelter assistance and essential items as winter approaches.
While calling for urgent humanitarian aid to reach civilians at the scale required, Jolie explained that aid and shelter materials continued to face restrictions and delays.
She noted, “People need shelter before winter. Humanitarian aid needs to reach civilians at the scale required. Hospitals need medical supplies.”
The actress added that while satellite images could show the depth of destruction visited on Gaza, they were incapable of delineating the impact of the killings on families.
“The destruction is visible; the needs are known; what matters now is whether they are met,” Mr Jolie wrote, adding conditions should be created to allow civilians to rebuild their homes, schools, hospitals and communities.
The war in Gaza has resulted in catastrophic losses, widespread displacement and the near-total destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Julie’s latest awareness came months after she travelled to Egypt in January, visiting the Rafah Crossing as part of a humanitarian trip while meeting aid workers on efforts to deliver assistance to the war-torn Gaza.
